HELPFUL HINTS
1. Use only a black ballpoint pen. Felt-tip pens and pencils are not to be recommended.
2. COMPLETELY fill in the oval located to the left of the Write-in line. Take care not to go outside the oval's lines.
3. Just above the line, write exactly:
Dr. Dave Johnson
4. Include the title Dr. because that is my professional name -- it is how I am known in the home neighborhood(s) as a community organizer and public policy activist. Merely "Dave Johnson" may not mean the same person to some.*
5. Do not spell-out Doctor. Do not write David Johnson. Write exactly: Dr. Dave Johnson. Be sure to place a period properly after Dr.
6. Likewise, be sure to print and not write in cursive.
7. Do not use all caps. Capitalize only the first letter of each word.
8. Make no reference in writing (in the margin or anywhere on the ballot) to any political party affiliation, either of the candidate or of your own. This is not necessary when voting via the Write-in mechanism and may, in fact, confuse the issue.
9. Make no extraneous reference or marking of any kind, as in "Power to the People" or "Every vote counts." This will no doubt invalidate your ballot, just as it might bring trouble on an IRS tax return. Hardworking officials are in no mood for extra work -- or extra writing. Your valid vote is comment enough. It will speak volumes.
10. Remember to bring your own black ballpoint pen. Those supplied by polling officials are invariably inferior and may well be of the felt-tip marker variety. This is important.
11. RECAP: Above anything else, write exactly (& only): Dr. Dave Johnson. Write it in the proper place provided.
12. The purpose of all these painstaking instructions is to ensure every vote counts. If you follow them to the letter, I assure you YOUR VOTE WILL COUNT. Trust me, precinct polling officials absolutely HATE Write-in ballots and are just looking for a reason -- any reason -- to toss them in the trash. The ONLY way to ensure your precious patriotic vote stays OUT of the trash and is duly counted IN the final totals is to precisely and fully follow each of the included dozen instructions. They are carefully & cogently listed here for your help, and to help the overall, overarching goals of participatory democracy. WRITE-IN, RIGHT ON !!~ Dr. Dave Johnson for Congress, Write-in Campaign, District 15****
